A Cleft Lip contains an opening in the upper Lip that may extend into the nose. The opening may be on one side, both sides or in the middle. A Cleft Palate on the other hand signifies the roof of the mouth containing an opening into the nose.
These disorders can result in feeding disorders, speech issues and frequent ear infections.
Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate are due to tissues of the face not properly joining together during development. They are type of birth defects. However, these disorders can be successfully treated with surgeries.
In light of this, the MOH, GHS and Operation Smile Ambassadors (volunteers) are passionately looking out for such patients to put a smile on their faces.
For the past eight (8) years, these organisations have been performing Free Surgeries to over 1,500 Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate patients.
A number of medical professionals including Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Dentists, Nutritionists, Speech therapists, Nurses etc shall be at the next medical mission.
