The annual Ghana National Cycling Championship and congress is set to take place in Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region from June 22 to 25.
According to Dennis Moore, the Communication Director of Ghana Cycling Federation, the township of Sunyani is prepared to host over 12 cycling clubs, 72 cyclists, 33 officials and a host of media personnel.
He said Mohammed Sahnoon, the President of the Ghana Cycling Federation and his charges are leaving no stone unturned to make this championship one of the best in the country’s history.
This year’s National championship would see both men and women cyclists battling for laurels in three categories of juniors, Under23 and Elite in Individual time trial, Team time trial and Road race events.
Mr. Shaaban Mohammed, Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation said he was optimistic that the event would bring the best in the wheelers.
“We hope this is going to be one of the best National championships in Africa. You can see how the female division is even prepared for this showdown” he said.
The event, which falls under the auspices of the Union Cycliste Internationale, (UCI), fulfills the obligations of the world cycling governing body.
The championship is being sponsored by the National Sports Authority, the Ministry of Youth and sports, the Ghana Cycling Federation and IQRA Ltd
